What are the advantages of living in Provo over Salt Lake City?
With Salt Lake City being both the capital of Utah and having the largest population, there are clear advantages to live in Salt Lake. I’m not suggesting Provo is superior to SLC, I’m wanting to hear your thoughts on the advantages of living in Provo vs. a bigger city like SLC. How would you sell someone to move here?
Cost of living is slightly cheaper than SLC, not by much though. Some will say that if you are not Mormon you’ll have an easier time fitting into SLC than you would Provo. If bars and nightclubs are your thing, definitely SLC. Outside of that, non-LDS people are treated no differently in Provo than they are in SLC.
The big reason you would move to Provo (of the Provo area) is the growing tech & startup scene. Utah County is the hub of everything tech inside of Utah. Super supportive community and EVERYBODY in tech is in Provo.
Homes are definitely cheaper, but FHA home loan limits are almost double in Salt Lake County over Utah County. You can get more bang for your buck in Provo when buying a home, but if it’s over $325k, you’re going to have to put down a lot more cash.
